Report: Infants Need Their Own Seats

A recent report suggests infants who sit on the lap of an adult during flights are more prone to injury than children who have their own seats. The research was conducted by Dr. Alexandre Rotta of University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland and data was collected from over 114,000 in-flight medical incidents from 2009 to 2014.

“Pediatric medical events on commercial airlines are relatively infrequent given the amount of passenger traffic, however unrestrained children, especially lap infants, are more likely to sustain an in-flight injury particularly during meal service or turbulence,” Rotta said.

Did they really need a study to show that? When it costs me an extra $1500-$2000 it makes it tough to pay for that extra seat.
