Qantas Automatically Extends Frequent Flyer Status to Those Eligible

There have been a lot of questions going around about airline statuses. While some carriers have deferred the questions until after the coronavirus crisis is over, Qantas sent out an email to reveal that those eligible would get a 12-month status extension.

Qantas Extends Status

On the company’s website, Qantas stated, “To give you one less thing to worry about right now, if you are eligible, your Qantas Frequent Flyer status will automatically be extended for 12 months, as of March 2020.” This means that eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer members whose one year anniversary falls between March 2020 and February 2021 will retain their status, regardless if they have maintained it on their own. All extensions will be automatically applied to the member’s account.

Those eligible for the status extension are all Platinum One, Platinum, Gold, and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer members who have not earned their own Status Credits, as well as, “members on Status Hold, members who have received complimentary Gold membership, or complimentary Platinum membership from a Platinum One member.” Furthermore, the four flight count minimum rule has been waived for those who have not earned the required Status Credit.

When Will Status be Extended?

Status extensions will be done in two phases:

  • If your membership year ends between March 2020 and June 2020, the status will be extended by March 27, 2020
  • If your membership year ends between July 2020 and February 2021, the status will be extended by April 9, 2020

It is simple to figure out when your status is extended to. If your membership year ends in March 2020, then your status is extended to March 2021. This will apply to all membership years ending between March 2020 and February 2021. New membership cards will be mailed out the same month as your original membership year end month.

This membership status extension only applies to those that have not been able to retain their status. Those who have will “enjoy your current benefits for the rest of your Membership Year another 12 months. Status extension will not apply.”
