Cheap Flights to Taiwan: Business Class for $2,068 Roundtrip

FlyerTalkers have found a deep premium fare deal available through Spring 2020. Flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport, travelers can visit Taipei, Taiwan aboard Japan Airlines for as little as $2,068 per person, round-trip!

Not all premium fare deals are easy to spot. Some require a little sleuthwork, particularly in finding deals published in global distribution systems that may not be announced to the public.

That’s exactly what FlyerTalker DUFAW did, when they found a great deal from New York to Taipei, Taiwan. Aboard Japan Airlines, flyers can get a round-trip ticket on select dates in winter and spring 2020 for as little as $2,068.

New York to Taipei

Discovered in the fine print, this deal is only available during limited windows throughout the Winter and Spring of 2020:

  • 27, 2019 – Jan. 1, 2020
  • 8 – 29, 2020
  • 24 – Mar. 8, 2020
  • 23 – Apr. 5, 2020
  • 13 – Apr. 30, 2020

One stopover is permitted in each direction in Japan Airlines’ Area 3, which includes the East Indies, Australia, New Zealand and many other South Pacific islands. Adding on a stopover costs $100 per stopover, per ticket.

When FlyerTalk searched on Google Flights for all the above dates, we found plenty of availability. In fact, when we searched between Monday, Feb. 24 and Monday, Mar. 2, 2020, China Eastern offered a similar business class fare on the same route for $2,011 round-trip. This gives flyers options within two major international alliances: oneworld with Japan Airlines, or China Eastern with SkyTeam. A Star Alliance

As with all premium fare deals, your price may vary. This deal also has a hard deadline with Japan Airlines: All flights must be paid for and ticketed by Jan. 31, 2020.

Is It a Good Deal?

For travelers looking for a winter getaway, or want to get a jump on qualifying for airline status, this deal represents a great chance to see Taiwan’s biggest city in one of the world’s best premium cabins. If booked correctly, the fare could earn over 32,000 elite qualifying miles with American Airlines AAdvantage and up to $4,050 in elite qualifying dollars. This could be enough to earn AAdvantage Gold status in just one flight.

Again, your actual earnings could vary. But in any event, this route allows flyers to achieve two goals in one shot: visit a new, interesting place in a premium cabin and potentially earn elite status!

"If booked correctly, the fare could earn over 32,000 elite qualifying miles with American Airlines AAdvantage and up to $4,050 in elite qualifying dollars. This could be enough to earn AAdvantage Gold status in just one flight” (how can this be done??)" When flying an AA partner airline *ON A PARTNER TICKET* (this does not work for an AA ticket that is a codeshare on a partner plane), you can have the partner apply the flight to your AAdvantage account, rather than to their own loyalty program. See the AAdvantage partner page for JAL's earning rates (https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/partner-airlines/japan-airlines.jsp) - Biz fares C, D, and X earn EQM's at 2x the air miles and they earn EQD's at 25% of the air miles. JFK-TSA via TYO is 16k miles RT. So 16k x 2 = 32k EQM, and 16k x 0.25 = $4k EQD

Looks like a great deal however can someone elaborate on...…. " If booked correctly, the fare could earn over 32,000 elite qualifying miles with American Airlines AAdvantage and up to $4,050 in elite qualifying dollars. This could be enough to earn AAdvantage Gold status in just one flight" (how can this be done??) and "One stopover is permitted in each direction in Japan Airlines’ Area 3, which includes the East Indies, Australia, New Zealand and many other South Pacific islands. Adding on a stopover costs $100 per stopover, per ticket." (is this really doable...how?) Thanks in advance for responses...….. "
