Pre-Flight Fistfight Between All Nippon Pax Caught on Tape

A violent exchange between two passengers on an All Nippon Airways flight due to depart for LAX, sent fellow air travelers taking cover and hitting record on their mobile devices.

Transpacific flights between Japan and North America can be a bit of a slog – especially in the economy class cabin. Irritable air travelers and frayed nerves might naturally be expected at some point during a nearly 12-hour-long voyage, but two All Nippon Airways passengers didn’t even make it to takeoff before trading blows in the cabin.

The brutal fistfight which took place across a row of seats just moments before the ANA flight bound for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was due to depart from Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND), was captured on video by fellow flyers. Unfortunately, the cellphone footage of the violent exchange obtained by the Daily Mail presents more questions than answers as to the root cause of the preflight excitement.

The situation appears to have already reached a boiling point by the time the video captures the altercation between the two travelers. One of the combatants can be heard asking cabin crew members to intervene moments before the the disagreement turned physical.

“Someone help!” one of the two pugilists is heard yelling in the opening seconds of the video. “This guy is crazy!”

Meanwhile, the other bickering passenger, who is wearing a shirt with a jovial tropical print, appears intent on proving his rival’s assessment of his mental health correct. When a crew attendant steps between the two feuding passengers, it seems to only inflame the situation.

“Help? You need help, b—-?” the angry man in a Hawaiian shirt threatens. “I’ll kill you.”

Eventually, after a brief skirmish, the aggressive passenger is seen appearing to walk towards the front of the plane and away from the flight, but he returns a short time later and the pair once again exchange blows while other horrified passengers try to avoid being caught in the ensuing melee.

Passengers can be heard in the background jeering the passenger in the now torn Luau-wear. As the video cuts out, the two passengers are still exchanging blows.

“Is this motherf—er not going to get off the plane?” an onlooker asks rhetorically before the footage ends.

The allegedly intoxicated instigator of the fight was reportedly removed from the aircraft before the flight left Japan. According to local media reports, he was taken into custody by police while his flight departed a short time later after only a brief delay.

Come on, FT, this incident happened over a year ago! Let's not get too excited about all these brawl stories. They are also not that interesting and may "inspire" the wrong type of behavior.
