Politicians Call For “Relief From Fee Gouging”

Carriers’ introduction of increased baggage and cancellation fees have prompted Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) and Edward J. Markey (D-Mass) and Representative Steve Cohen (D-Tenn) to write to 11 different domestic carriers, asking whether there were any plans for yet higher fees.

Airlines for America spokesperson Alison McAfee said, “To the extent that fees or other surcharges help airlines generate more revenues or avoid costs for services that some passengers may not value, they help overcome an economic climate in which costs are rising steadily, as they are today.”
