Plane Skids on Runway, Forces Airport Closure

No incidents were reported after a Sun Express Boeing 737 skidded off the runway at Stuggart Airport (STR), forcing the airport to close for four hours Sunday.

It is not known what caused the aircraft to run off the tarmac into the grass, though airport manager Walter Schoefer said the aircraft was too close to the runway for other aircraft to take off or land, forcing the closure of STR and the diversion of flights to other airports.
