Planes Make It Rain Over Bangkok

In an effort to combat the incredible levels of smog and air pollution in Bangkok, aircraft carrying chemicals meant to trigger rainstorms in the atmosphere flew over the Thailand capital in the last week.

Danger levels for the presence of a hazardous dust particle identified as PM 2.5 – a mixture of dust, soot, smoke and other substances dangerous to cardiovascular health – have gone critical in over half of Bangkok’s 50 districts, and environmental activists in the region have petitioned for the government to designate Bangkok as a pollution-free zone.
