Pilot Suspended After Falling Asleep Aboard Flight

Captain Amir Akhtar Hashmi, a senior pilot with Pakistan International Airlines, was suspended by the carrier after he was found asleep in the business class section of the flight he was supposed to have been flying at the time. A trainee had been placed at the controls in lieu of the snoozing pilot, and Captain Hashmi has been accused of endangering passengers by shirking his responsibilities.

Air steward Nazneen Haider said, “Passenger (Seat 1 D) complained that while the captain was sleeping in business class cabin, I (the passenger) do not feel safe […] It had been explained that two other crew members were in the cockpit but he said that he would follow the matter and write down a complaint card as well.”
