Boeing Hits Milestone With New 737

Boeing unveiled its newest update to the popular 737, the 737 MAX, in Renton, Wash., Tuesday.

“With the rollout of the new 7373 MAX – the first new airplane of Boeing’s second century – our team is upholding an incredible legacy while taking the 737 to the next level of performance,” said Vice President and General Manager of Boeing’s 737 MAX Keith Leverkuhn in a statement.

The updated, fuel-efficient aircraft includes bigger, more powerful engines and is 14 percent less expensive to operate than its predecessor.

The 737 MAX will be no more comfortable for passengers than existing 737s. I am sure it is good for airlines but does nothing for bums in seats. I still prefer sitting in the A320 over the 737.

"limped along"? I wouldn't go that far. It's the most common airliner found across the world due to its wide range of mission profiles up to distances of about 3000 nm. I, too, loved the 757 (or..love it still), but many of those are becoming long in the tooth as some airlines flying them have let them become dated.

Hopefully this will be the last iteration of a nearly 50 year old aircraft, limped along (rather poorly I might add) for the past two decades. It's time for someone to invest money in a newer, quieter, roomier, faster replacement for the 737.

Still a noisy and uncomfortable aircraft, no matter how many hundreds of iterations that Boeing offers. It still ain't no 757.
