Perpetrator of Air India Bombings Released From Prison

AppleMark

Inderjit Singh Reyat, the sole convicted perpetrator of the 1985 Air India bombings, has been released from a Canadian prison after serving more than two decades for his involvement in the terrorist attack. Reyat was convicted of building the two briefcase bombs that killed a total of 331 people, one bomb detonating at an airport and the other aboard Air India Flight 182 as it flew over the Atlantic Ocean.

Reyat declined to implicate the other suspects, who were acquitted of all charges, and in 2010 was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for perjury. He is being allowed to serve the last 3 years of his sentence in a halfway house while also receiving counseling for what one psychologist called a lack of “true empathy and remorse” for the victims of the bombings and their families.
