Pennsylvania Man Arrested at BWI with Semi-Automatic Handgun
On Sunday, an unidentified Pennsylvania resident was arrested on weapons charges at Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) after employees of the Transportation Security Administration discovered a semi-automatic 40-caliber handgun and ammunition in his carry-on luggage. The man reportedly informed officials that he was carrying the firearm.

Strictly speaking the decimal is important when discussing a .40 caliber round, which is about 1 mm larger in diameter than its more common 9mm cousin. 40 caliber without the leading decimal (if such a caliber existed) would start to approach the 50 caliber, 16-inch diameter rounds that were the primary armament of the 1940's era Iowa Class battleships.
