Pax Smokes Pot, Southwest Makes An Emergency Landing

In a surprisingly bold move, a Southwest Airlines passenger lit up a joint in the bathroom of Flight 1250 from San Francisco to Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon.

Unsurprisingly, the other 32 passengers on the plane immediately smelled marijuana smoke and reported it to crew members.

The plane then made an emergency landing at San Jose Mineta International Airport, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. The smoker was escorted off of the plane and turned over to law enforcement.

While marijuana is legal in California, perhaps someone should have told this passenger, smoking anything on a plane is illegal. He may face criminal charges.

The 32 other passengers on the flight were put on other aircraft and continued their trip to Los Angeles.

In reply to "the First Dave" you cannot get high off the secondhand smoke from one joint being smoked on an airplane. This is a huge overreaction that inconvenienced a lot of people. It would have been much smarter to make an announcement that everything was ok, reminding passengers of the no smoking ban and then let law enforcement deal with the offender upon arrival.

"Bold" is code for a huge overreaction.

I was so hoping that the bold move was to open the door and throw him out whatever the altitude, AHs like this should only be treated in one way that is the hard way.
