A Southwest Airlines passenger was detained after making a security threat on the anniversary of September 11.

Authorities at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) removed a passenger from a Southwest Airlines flight on Thursday for allegedly issuing a security threat.

Dan Landson, a spokesman for Southwest, explained in an email to FlyerTalk that shortly after Denver-bound Flight 3677 pushed back from the gate, “the captain notified authorities of a potential security threat onboard the aircraft.”

The passenger, whose name has not been released, was then removed from the aircraft. He was detained for several hours by the Port of Seattle police, and questioning was aided by the FBI, according to USA Today.

Landson stated that after the passenger was removed, the aircraft taxied to a remote part of the airport where passengers’ luggage was rescreened. The Boeing 737-300, which was scheduled to depart at 11:30 a.m. PT, departed SEA at 3:02 p.m.

Monique Thormann, a spokeswoman for SEA, provided an email to FlyerTalk about the investigation on Friday. “The suspect was detained, questioned and released pending charges,” Thormann said. “All the information regarding the case will be forwarded to the King County prosecutor’s office for review and determination of the charges.”

OF course WN will bill the individual for all costs involved and passengers hopefully can sue the individual for their costs.
