Oops. A Wingnut in an American Airlines Meal

Of all the things you don’t want to find in American Airlines meal, pieces of machinery have the greatest ability to do irreparable damage to your teeth.

Thankfully, the passenger who spotted this wingnut in their American Airlines meal did so before it was in his mouth (but not before he had eaten quite a lot of his meal).

While this is a fun title, finding a wingnut in your meal is not a fun game. Said passenger Dan Gumpright to the customer service rep who responded on Twitter, “the crew were as shocked as me. One flight attendant ran to show her manager. I couldn’t eat the rest of the meal and felt sick with a rusty metallic taste in my mouth.”

That, unfortunately, is the end of the thread. There’s been no word so far on how American Airlines will deal with this unfortunate accident. While we aren’t food scientists, we’d be willing to bet that the wingnut is a part of the machinery used to cook or package the airline meals and not, in fact, “the ‘ship’ part in flagship dining” as one commenter suggested.

Hopefully, that wingnut didn’t wind up in there 18 months ago. Or, perhaps, it had something to do with the widespread protests of the food caterers for American Airlines and others for improved wages.
