Oneworld Wins Best Alliance for 12th Consecutive Year

Honored as the top airline alliance for the 12th consecutive year, oneworld remains the only World Travel Award winner for best airline alliance

In the eyes of the World Travel Awards, only one airline alliance has been at the top of travel for the last twelve years. At the 21st annual World Travel Awards, oneworld was honored once again with the World’s Leading Airline Alliance award.

Since the award’s inception in 2003, oneworld has walked away as the sole honoree in the category. The award is the second honor for the alliance in one week, as oneworld was honored as the best airline alliance by Global Traveler magazine just days before.

“Being named as the World’s Leading Airline Alliance at the World Travel Awards crowns a momentous year for oneworld,” Michael Blunt, oneworld Vice President of Corporate Communications, said in a statement. “[This year] also marked the completion of our biggest expansion program yet with the addition of 15 more top-class airlines as full members or affiliates in the past two years and added more benefits for our most loyal customers.”

In addition to the Leading Airline Alliance award, several oneworld members walked away from the celebration with regional awards. American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific and LAN Airlines all earned honors in varying regional categories.

At the world level, a number of recognizable names were honored for their products. Etihad Airways earned three awards at the event: World’s Leading Airline, World’s Leading First Class and World’s Leading Cabin Crew. Virgin Atlantic and Emirates both earned two awards, while AirAsia, Hainan Airlines and Oman Air each received an honor.

Described as “the Oscars of the travel industry,” the World Travel Awards are voted upon every year by travel agents and buyers. Over 100 awards were handed out this year, honoring the top travel providers and destinations around the world.
