One Dead, Three Injured at Hotel Shooting in Los Angeles

Police have made no arrests in a downtown Los Angeles hotel shooting that killed one and injured at least three.

Los Angeles Police are still searching for suspects in a downtown hotel shooting that killed one person and may have paralyzed another. Los Angeles CBS affiliate KCBS-TV reports the incident took place early in the morning hours of Sunday, December 13 at The Standard hotel.

Witnesses at the scene claim the incident began as a fight on an upper floor of the hotel, where a private party was being held. The confrontation then spilled out into the lobby before the shots rang out. Those who were there say up to two people may have fired shots, sending up to 14 rounds into the lobby.

“We didn’t know what was going,” Nick Vantzos, an eyewitness to the situation, told KCBS. “We saw people running in every direction.”

Los Angeles Police were dispatched to the hotel around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning where they responded to four victims. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, a police spokesperson confirmed one was killed in the shooting and as many as three others were wounded. The remaining victims were last listed in stable condition, according to KCBS.

The police are still investigating the homicide and shooting, telling the media that no arrests have been made and no description of the shooters were available. The hotel ownership is cooperating with police during the investigation.

“We are shocked and outraged by the act of violence,” a spokesperson for Standard International Management told the Los Angeles Times. The statement continued to call the incident “the latest example of increasing street crime and gun violence in Los Angeles.”
