Customs officials in Bangladesh raided a Boeing 777 bathroom and seized 106 pieces of gold bars upon discovery. The gold bars, weighing in at 12 kilograms (26.5 pounds) are worth approximately $500,000 at the current value.

“The gold bars were wrapped up with tape on the back of a mirror in the plane’s toilet,” said Customs department’s Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury. “A total of 106 bars weighing 12 kg were recovered after removing the tape.”

With support from the National Security Intelligence (NSI), the gold stashed in the Biman Airlines bathroom was quickly recovered once it landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) from Dubai.

Though no arrests were made in association with the smuggled gold, stated Chowdhury, an investigation is underway.
