Newcomer Bamboo Airways Is Looking to Expand

Industry newcomer, Bamboo Airways, is taking big strides this quarter as it starts eyeing flights to Europe. Starting in 2020, the airline will offer nonstop flights from its home base of Hanoi, Vietnam to Prague, Czech Republic.

Bamboo Airways is a Hanoi based airline that started operations in January 2019. Since its launch, it has grown its fleet to 10 leased aircraft, one Airbus 319, five Airbus 320s, and four Airbus 321neos, and expanded its network across Vietnam and other parts of Asia. The airline takes passengers to locations along its 3,200 kilometers of coastline, as well as its major cities, such as Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Additionally, Bamboo operates routes to China, South Korea, and Japan, with plans to expand to Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries in 2019.

With 78 more aircraft on order, 30 Boeing 787-900s, two Airbus 330-200s, and 46 Airbus 321neos, the airline’s expansion appears unwavering. A memorandum of understanding was signed and the airline plans to run the route three times a week on a new 787-900 Dreamliner – the first is expected to be delivered this year. This is the first step in Bamboo’s plan to expand across Europe, with intensions to serve all major European cities by 2025.

When asked about their opinion of the new route, the Czech Republic seemed thrilled. Government officials stated, “The Czech Republic government welcomes and fully supports the launch of the route, thus contributing to boosting bilateral trade and cultural exchange. The Czech delegation also held a working session with FLC Group’s Bamboo Airways to debate the guarantee of security when it comes to opening direct air route between the two countries.”

Of all the So Cal airports the first available apt I could get was San Diego for January 2020 - for my Global Access interview. This past weekend leaving Toronto - we (3 of us) were able to easily get the interviews when departing customs in.Toronto. Took about 15 mins per person. I got approval email the next day !! Bottom line...don’t panick and try to do it next time you enter the U.S. from an international flight.
