New Japanese Passenger Plane Faces Delays, Increasing Costs

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. now claims the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, Japan’s first locally-constructed passenger jet, will  now cost an unforeseen 30 percent more after construction faces its fifth delay. The company claims the delay was caused by “revisions of certain systems and electrical configurations” necessary to meet certification requirements.

“We’re explaining everything in detail to our stakeholders,” said Chief Executive Officer Shunichi Miyanaga. “We’re facing the risks and taking a forward-looking attitude.”
