Rayani Air becomes the fourth Islamic airline to fly in the world, offering alternative carrier for Malaysian Muslims.

Those of the Islamic faith in Malaysia now have an air carrier that shares the edicts of their beliefs. With their inaugural flight on December 20, Rayani Air is the first Islamic airline to launch in the Asian nation.

Associated Press reporters who were on one of the first flights of the new carrier report their experience began with greetings from traditionally-dressed flight attendants. Prior to takeoff, a prayer was offered by those aboard the aircraft, lead by one of the flight attendants. In air, flyers were offered snacks and beverages compliant with Islamic beliefs, meaning no alcohol or pork products are offered.

“Respect and Serve with a heart – this is what the Rayani Air brand encapsulates,” the airline writes on their website. “Malaysia’s latest airline is doing what is fundamentally right in the aviation industry – committed to greater passenger satisfaction.”

Leaders for the airline claim they will focus on providing a top-class passenger experience instead of being driven by profits. One flyer expressed her appreciation for the airline balancing customer service with faith-driven practices.

“It’s quite important for me because first of all, I am a Muslim, and second, Malaysia is an Islamic country,” Che Masnita Atikah, a Rayani Air flyer told the AP. “It’s quite important to have this kind of airline to represent Malaysia and its image as an Islamic country.”

Currently, the airline operates flights to three Malaysian destinations utilizing two-class Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline claims they are hopeful to expand to other major international cities in the region. Rayani Air is the fourth Islamic carrier to fly around the world, joining airlines in Brunei, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Thanks, but no thanks! When I first read saw the picture, I thought it said Ryanair, but this airline is even less desirabe.
