Mischievous Hacker Spices Up Delta’s Facebook Page With NSFW Content

A mischief-maker who gained control of Delta’s social media platform posted a variety of content on the airline’s behalf that was definitely not safe for work.

Delta Air Lines’ Facebook page trended decidedly blue on Tuesday. Business Insider reported that sandwiched among Delta’s traditional family-friendly travel tips and weekend getaway suggestions, were links to obscene content and pornographic pictures. Facebook users who (unwisely) clicked on links — which appeared alongside titles such as “10 Reasons Why Girls Don’t Give Blow Jobs” — were subjected to images that were clearly not posted by an airline looking to promote resort destinations.

The airline issued an apology for the offensive content and promised to investigate the security breach via its Twitter account, which was not affected by the hack. Delta also issued a statement to Business Insider saying it worked with Facebook to remove the content within one hour of its posting, adding that the airline will “incorporate any key lessons to strengthen our social media security measures.”

Delta is not alone in being singled out for pranks with sexual undertones. There seems to be something about the airline industry that brings out a prankster’s compulsion to publicly display deviant behavior. In April 2014, US Airways’ Twitter account was used to embarrass the airline with the posting of a now-famous image featuring a naked woman using a model plane for less than wholesome purposes.

More recently, Ryanair ground crew employees at Dublin Airport (DUB) embraced their inner teenager and drew an inappropriate image in the snow while passengers looked on.

This wasn't a "mischievous hacker" who pulled a "prank"; it was a crime.
