Man on Frontier Flight Allegedly Punches Deaf Pregnant Woman, Dog

Timothy Manley, a passenger flying aboard a Frontier Airlines flight to Orlando, allegedly struck a pregnant woman in the stomach as well as her service dog, after claiming that the dog was occupying too much space on the aircraft.

“At some point Hazel was punched in the stomach by Timothy and (Ms Ramirez and Mr Silvay’s) two children were touched by Timothy,” the police report on the incident read.

For his part, Manley sees the incident has having occurred differently.

“I wouldn’t call it a punch,” Manley said.

This flight had already gone from Colorado to Orlando without any serious "allergic" reaction from Manley's companion. Had she had a serious life-threatening allergy she would have disclosed that prior to boarding. (Ask anyone with a peanut allergy how close they get to peanuts...) Manley has major anger/alcohol/drug (pick one) issues if he hit an obviously deaf, pregnant woman and her, trained to be submissive, service dog! I say obviously deaf, because any, unimpaired adult can see that if a person is communicating via sign language (they'd flown 1500+ miles) is deaf. I hope they charge him with assault, cruelty to animals and put him on a "Do Not Fly" list. What a jerk!

As someone who deals with safety issues and people living with disabilities, I am appauled at how this appears to have been handled based on what I have read from the article. The special services section of the airline should have intervened if it was known that someone had an allergy to pet dander. The individual with the allergy should have been in contact with the airline ahead of the flight to notify the airline of their allergy so that something could have been done prior to boarding the flight. This is a great example of how you should collaborate with airlines when you have special health issues that can impact your ability to fly. More people today are traveling with their pets and so it is not uncommon to find that small animals are flying in the cabin of an aircraft with passengers. The dog owner has a responsibility to notify the airline that they are flying with their assistance animal/pet, Some people with small medical issues, such as allergies, think that they will be fine during a flight but need to make the airline aware of ANY medical issues so that if an emergency comes up it can be dealt with appropriately. There is plenty of fault to go around with this incident based on the information provided in the article. The airline needs to step up and do more to meet the needs of passengers with medical issues. Passengers that travel with medical issues need to make the airlines more aware of their needs and potential issues that could arise. Working together we can make traveling enjoyable and safer for everyone. Perhaps an announcement at the gate that anyone with medical issues including allergies needs to see the gate staff before boarding the plane could take place. That way if there are conflicting issues a gate agent can reaccommodate someone on another flight.
