Malaysia Airlines and Emirates to Start Codesharing in 2016

Frankfurt, Germany - June 19, 2013: A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 with the registration 9M-MRG takes off from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in Germany. This aircraft is the sister airplane of the crashed planes wiith the registration 9M-MRO and 9M-MRD.

Malaysia Airlines (MH) and Emirates (EK) announced Wednesday a new codeshare partnership that will help flyers make seamless international connections from Malaysia to more than 90 EK destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.

MH will add its code on EK flights, and EK will add its code to MH flights on domestic routes in Malaysia, South East Asia and other select cities in Asia Pacific. The airlines will implement the codeshares progressively throughout 2016 and after regulatory approvals, and sales will begin Feb. 1, 2016.

“This partnership gives our customers access to a dramatically expanded range of travel options. It is a great way for customers to travel seamlessly to major cities across the world,” said MH Chief Executive Officer Christoph Mueller in a press release. “Furthermore, Dubai is a tourism, trade and logistics hub which has earned itself the reputation as being the gateway between the East and the West.”

Under the agreement, MH flyers will have access to 38 European, 15 Americas and 38 destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean. EK passengers will have access to MH’s Asia Pacific network that includes 300 daily departures.

EK, based in Dubai, flies to over 140 destinations in 80 countries across six continents and is the world’s largest airline in available seat kilometers. The airline operates 243 wide-body Airbus and Boeing aircraft and has pending delivery for an additional 263 aircraft, worth more than $124 billion.
