Monaco’s iconic Hotel de Paris is planning an auction of more than 3,000 items as part of its refurbishment plans.

The Hotel de Paris in Monaco — a vacation destination for celebrities like Sarah Bernhardt, Cary Grant, Errol Flynn, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill and Rita Hayworth — is launching the first stage of its refurbishment with an auction featuring more than 3,000 items from the property’s past. The auction will take place from January 25 through January 30 in the Empire Room.

Items up for auction include pieces from the Sarah Bernhardt and Winston Churchill suites, as well as items from the lobby, bar, restaurant and garden. Hotel manager Luca Allegri expects the sale to be an emotional one, as many iconic items from the most well-known parts of the property are hitting the auction block — a vintage minibar, the piano from the American Bar, garden sun loungers, linens with the hotel’s monogram, the large rug in the lobby, furniture from the suites and more

The auction is expected to fetch more than $1.2 million. Items will be priced as low as $17,0 and the auctioneers predict the range of prices will draw in many different levels of buyers.

The Hotel de Paris opened in 1864. Once Monaco exploded as a destination for the rich and famous, the property became the lodging of choice for many celebrities. Errol Flynn was married there in 1952, and Winston Churchill spent his winters after World War II living in a sixth-floor apartment.
