Lufthansa’s Hiring Thousands

LH Cargo, Gruppe, FRA, den 1.07.2011

Lufthansa Group is going on a hiring spree. The company has announced plans to fill 5,500 new positions throughout the course of 2019. The positions that will be filled are spread across Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik, SWISS and other enterprises belonging to Lufthansa Group.

Almost all of the open positions are located in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Belgium. The jobs that are available aren’t just for pilots, flight attendants and other highly visible team members. Lufthansa Group is actually hiring a high number of behind-the-scenes employees. That includes IT specialists and what are being called junior-level employees.

What that basically means is that Lufthansa Group is planning to bring in apprentices and students participating in cooperative degree programs to take care of job responsibilities throughout the company. In addition, several hundred new employees will be hired to work in positions that ensure quality in operations. Lufthansa Group currently employs around 135,000 people. The company is actually the largest employer in Frankfurt and Hessen.

Lufthansa Technik Group alone is seeking 1,200 new employees in Germany. About 600 of those hires will be IT specialists. No specific reason regarding why the company is looking to make such a big tech-oriented expansion has been revealed yet. However, the public can probably count on the fact that Lufthansa has plans to become a more data-focused company when it comes to keeping track of customers, offering deals and optimizing its loyalty program.

The core Lufthansa brand will also see about 1,200 new hires in 2019. Those employees will report to Lufthansa’s hubs at Frankfurt and Munich. Lufthansa is also beginning the task of bringing in up to 500 new pilots. Those new pilots will be training at the European Flight Academy in 2019.

While it’s true that Lufthansa will be opening up a ton of positions this year, that doesn’t mean that getting hired by the company will actually be easy. More than 170,000 people submitted applications through Lufthansa’s job portal in 2018. That number is expected to be much higher in 2019 now that the company’s plan of hiring thousands of new employees has been announced to the public. Lufthansa already employs a very diverse workforce. The company has employees from 147 different countries. People are drawn to careers at Lufthansa due to the company’s reputation for offering a professional environment and top-tier personal training. Lufthansa has already announced that it is making a commitment to promote the talents of any new employees it brings into the fold this year.
