The city of Lombard, IL could be awarded as much as $460,000 after winning a lawsuit against six online travel agencies who were alleged not to have paid sufficient hotel taxes in Lombard. The lawsuit accused Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Orbitz, Priceline.com and Travelocity of robbing 14 suburban Illinois towns of their due hotel or lodging taxes.
The travel agencies still have a chance to appeal, and Lombard Village Manager Scott Niehaus said while this is a good first step, “what would ultimately flow to the village would be less after legal fees and things are paid.”
