Las Vegas Airport Gives Terminal 1 a Power Boost in Prep for CES

Flyers heading to Las Vegas for CES this week will get to see technological advancements from the moment they arrive at the airport.

Tech-savvy travelers attending the International CES conference in Las Vegas can expect to find thousands of additional outlets and USB ports inside restaurants and bars at McCarran International Airport’s (LAS) Terminal 1, along with a personal “geek squad” that will be available to assist travelers with Internet access issues.

The installation of additional power sources, an upgrade which was estimated to cost nearly $400,000, is similar to improvements LAS made to Terminal 3 in 2012, notes Skift. Terminal 1’s upgrade also includes the installation of an additional 500 under-seat power outlets and USB ports. LAS has even boosted its bandwidth supply, giving travelers twice the download speed.

CES, which drew more than 160,000 attendees in 2014, brings together of some of the biggest electricity and Internet users, according to Karen Chupka, senior vice president with CES and the Consumer Electronics Association.

“We tend to push the limits of everything,” Chupka told AP, going on to describe the airport’s installation of more power sources as “absolutely wonderful.”

By the next CES show, LAS hopes to have additional power lounge chairs installed in open spaces in the waiting areas that “might otherwise be power poor,” reports Skift.

The four-day show officially kicks off on Tuesday runs through Friday.
