La Guardia Runway Briefly Closed After Lightning Strikes

LaGuardia Airport (LGA) was forced to close Runway 4 momentarily after lightning hit the pavement at approximately 11:18 a.m. local time Wednesday, further disrupting flight schedules that had already faced delays due to storm severity on the east coast. The lightning created only “minor damage,” and the runway was patched up relatively quickly. Service resumed at about 12:40 p.m. local time, according to reports from the Port Authority.
