Kate Beckinsale Traveling With 17 Suitcases Is a Big Mood

Kate Beckinsale Traveling With 17 Suitcases Is a Big Mood
Meg Butler

I have to confess: I’m a chronic over-packer. I like my suitcases large, I check my bags for free on most airlines and I can tell whether any given piece of luggage is just-under-overweight just by deadlifting it a few times.

Why am I an unapologetic overpacker? I just kind of like to travel with the security blanket of having most of my favorite clothing items with me. Also, I mostly travel for work and there’s usually a surprise dinner in a posh restaurant, or a surprise four-mile walking tour of a city in 90 degrees Fahrenheit weather or—and this has happened to me twice—a surprise mandatory yoga session in the meeting room of a hotel which will be photographed and videotaped by the in-house PR. It pays to be sartorially prepared.

So, while “pack light” is one of Erykah Badu’s most inspiring words of wisdom, it doesn’t always apply to everyone’s travel plans. And if you are dying to tell me just how far and how many days you can travel with one Tumi carry-on, know that I am impressed but unconvertable. I never read “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” and I’m not going to.

But, even on my longest trip, I have never come close to an amount of luggage that would ever measure up to the iconic moment when Underworld actress Kate Beckinsale rolled up to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) for a flight to Los Angeles with 17 suitcases.

The suitcases arrived in their own transit van and were pushed through the airport by porters while Kate went to the lounge, probably to sip 17 glasses of champagne. I don’t even think my entire wardrobe would require quite as many industrial-sized suitcases. But when you show up to the airport with a feather throw and suede boots—you’re traveling on a level that the rest of us, rocking wrinkle-resistant convertible fashion, can only imagine.

what a princess. Am surprised that check in person even knew who she was. She’s only a C or D class actress.

I mean did anyone ever think she could be moving all this ti a new home in LA? Or does luggage always mean just travel stuff to this site?

She probably was carrying some waredrobe for a project. They would have foot the bill for the transport and also pay extra for your own waredrobe so it can pay to do this. It’s just business, nothing more here to see.

Not unusual, as actors and actresses are often far away from home, months at a time, while shooting a movie. If the studio is paying for it, or if you can afford it, why not bring everything, rather than find you are missing an item and have to go out and buy it again?
