JFK Terminal Evacuated Following Istanbul Attack

A day after the suicide bombing of Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST), Terminal 5 of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) was briefly evacuated after a police dog flagged an unattended bag in a non-secure area of the terminal. The sniffer dogs are trained to sit down next to items containing potentially dangerous materials. Airport security evacuated the immediate area around the flagged bag and passengers were sent to stand outside near the roadway as a bomb squad was called in to defuse the situation. The bag was inspected and cleared by security after it was clear that it only contained clothing and not hazardous material. The terminal was opened approximately an hour later.
