In June, four Jetstar flight attendants were busted by the Australian Border Force for trying to smuggle 3.5 kilograms of tobacco through Melbourne Airport (MEL), and were subsequently fired from the carrier for their part in the operation.

The total amount of tobacco being smuggled exceeded the duty-free limit of 25 cigarettes per person traveling into Australia. Airport officials at Melbourne Airport claim to have reason to believe that this was not an isolated incident on the part of the Jetstar employees.
