JetBlue Refunds Dumped Bridesmaid’s Ticket

Courtney Duffy had already booked cross-country tickets with JetBlue to be a bridesmaid in her friend’s wedding. But when Duffy was unceremoniously dumped from the lineup just before the big day, JetBlue was happy to come her rescue. She was issued a full refund on her fare and given a fee waiver.

A bridesmaid who was unceremoniously dumped from her friend’s wedding party has received comfort and consolation from an unlikely source: JetBlue.

MBA student Courtney Duffy had booked cross-country tickets to serve as bridesmaid in her friend’s wedding, but, as the New York Post reports, Duffy was asked by her friend to suddenly give up her space in the bridal party.

Stuck with a pair of airline tickets she had no intention of using, Duffy then approached JetBlue via Twitter for assistance. In the exchange, she was quoted by the outlet as saying, “Booked my X-C [cross-country] flights for a wedding, then was asked ‘to relinquish’ my “duties as a bridesmaid,’.”

Duffy tweeted that she was also asked to send her wedding outfit back to the bride “so another girl could fill in and wear it”.

According to Indy 100she also included a snapshot of the bride’s e-mail, including her request that she give up her duties as a bridesmaid.

Duffy finished her entreaty to the carrier by adding, “I am laughing & crying & must avoid this wedding at all costs. Pls help?.”

Duffy’s plea received much sympathy online, with Theresa Basile tweeting, “I’m getting married in 1.5 months and I’m Team Courtney here.”

Thankfully, JetBlue was more than happy to play the sweetheart. In addition to refunding her the cost of her tickets, the airline also waived Duffy’s cancellation fees.

Commenting on the situation on Saturday, Duffy was quoted by the New York Post as saying, “Wow, did not expect this response. Weddings have gotten totally out of control … I’m hoping this threat reminds future lovebirds and bridal parties to keep their feet on the ground.”

It's not a "heartwarming" story, but it is one of most outstanding examples of customer service that I have ever read. Kudos to Jet Blue!
