JetBlue Airways, an erstwhile sponsor of the Puerto Rican Day Parade, has pulled its sponsorship of the event due to a decision by parade organizers to honor Oscar Lopez Rivera. Rivera was the leader of the FALN (Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional Puertorriqueña), which orchestrated a number of bombings across the United states between 1974 and 1983.
On Monday, JetBlue released a statement: “It became clear that the debate about this year’s parade was dividing the community and overshadowing the celebration of Puerto Rican culture that we had set out to support.”
