It’s Now Possible to Credit Aer Lingus Flights to Alaska Mileage Plan

It’s Now Possible to Credit Aer Lingus Flights to Alaska Mileage Plan
Anya Kartashova

A couple of months ago, Alaska Airlines announced a new partnership with an Irish carrier Aer Lingus. To coincide with the inaugural flight between Seattle and Dublin on May 18, Mileage Plan members now can earn miles for traveling to more than 80 destinations on Aer Lingus.

Depending on the fare class you purchase, it’s possible to earn between 25 percent and 100 percent of the total distance flown.

Although the ability to credit miles is now in effect, you won’t be seeing the actual flight credits in your Mileage Plan account until July. To earn credit on Alaska Airlines as per the earning chart above, flights must be operated and marketed by Aer Lingus.

If you have an Aer Lingus flight already booked and you want to earn Mileage Plan miles, please call 1-800-474-7424 to add your member number to the reservation.

At this time, the option to redeem Mileage Plan miles for Aer Lingus flights is not yet available. It is unclear how long it would take to fully integrate a mutual partnership with options to redeem both programs’ miles on either airline.

After losing Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM and Aeromexico as partners, Alaska has added a few new partners to the list, including Finnair and Singapore Airlines, but award redemptions aren’t available on those carriers, either, and a timeline for when it would be possible hasn’t been announced.

Will you credit your Aer Lingus flights to Alaska or stick with another oneworld alliance carrier?
