Is This Cocktail of Anti-Viral Drugs the Cure for the Coronavirus?

Doctors in Thailand may have discovered the cure for the coronavirus—a new virus that originated in Wuhan, China and has since spread to several countries via person-to-person contact, including Thailand, Japan, Nepal, France, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and others.

A 71-year-old Chinese patient in Thailand, who was previously tested positive for the coronavirus, showed signs of dramatic improvement after doctors administered a cocktail of anti-viral drugs. Kriengsak Attipornwanich, a Thai doctor, said the lab results of the patient tested negative after only 48 hours of administering the drugs that are typically used to treat flu and HIV patients.

According to Attipornwanich, the patient was given the anti-flu drug oseltamivir and anti-viral drugs lopinavir and ritonavir.

As Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health awaits further research and improvement, so far eight patients who tested positive for the coronavirus in Thailand have shown signs of recovery and returned home. The Daily Sabah reports that 11 Chinese patients still remain in the hospital.

A telebriefing from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today reported that the virus has infected more than 17,000 people in China and 23 other countries, with 11 confirmed cases in the United States.
