Investigation of Vegas BA Fire Suggests Compressor Problems

Investigation of Vegas BA Fire Suggests Compressor Problems

A current investigation into a fire that happened aboard a British Airways flight during takeoff at McCarran International Airport (LAS) in 2015 has indicated that the incident was likely caused by a failure in the aircraft’s engine compressor. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released documents that detail the probable causes of the fire aboard the aircraft, and a final, conclusive report is slated to be released by the safety board in the next few months.

“It looks like a compressor part came unglued in the engine and caused some serious damage, and then, some flammable fluids ignited in process,” said Don Knutson, an unrelated aircraft accident investigator in Wichita, Kansas.
