Intoxicated Passenger Causes Mayhem on Emirates Flight

The unnamed business class traveler stripped and smoked before being restrained by cabin crew on a flight from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Dubai International Airport (DXB).

An intoxicated passenger onboard a recent flight from Manchester to Dubai caused mayhem in business class when he stripped and lit a cigarette during landing.

The incident occurred on Emirates Flight EK020 last Friday. Witnesses told the Manchester Evening News that the unnamed man, believed to be in his fifties, had been seen drinking steadily for hours in the upper class bar of the A380 aircraft.

An unidentified passenger seated near the man told the paper that “He was at the bar for ages and then at one point I came back from the toilet and he was in his seat with his shirt off. Who does that on a flight?”

In addition to making a nuisance of himself to those seated around him, it is reported that the intoxicated passenger then proceeded to smoke a cigarette as EK020 was making its final descent into Dubai.

As the plane touched down and smoke spread through the cabin, the paper reports that crew members rushed to intervene. While he initially denied he had been smoking, a flight supervisor found cigarettes on the man, one of which had been partially smoked.

The passenger then reportedly protested that he had “forgotten he was on a plane” and said that he would “have a chat with the captain to apologize.”

He was restrained by the crew as all other passengers disembarked the craft.

Emirates verified the incident, saying, “Emirates can confirm that on Flight EK020 from Manchester to Dubai on 9 December, an intoxicated passenger had to be restrained by cabin crew. The aircraft was met by security upon landing at Dubai airport. The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance and will not be compromised.”
