InterContinental Revamps Loyalty Program with IHG One

InterContinental Hotels Group is relaunching their loyalty program as IHG One, offering five loyalty tiers with benefits to come in Summer 2022.
InterContinental Hotel Group is re-engaging their most loyal guests with a new program, in time for a highly anticipated summer travel season.

The company launched IHG One on Sunday, April 17, 2022, as the new program for all hotels within the IHG Hotels and Resorts portfolio of 17 brands worldwide.

Five Loyalty Tiers, Late Checkout for All and Free Breakfast for Top-Tier Members

The revamped program expands the loyalty program to five tiers, with elite status earned after staying 10 nights. Members of IHG One will earn 10 points per $1 spent at most hotels – those staying at Staybridge Suites or Candlewood Suites will earn five points per $1 spent.

With the new program, even basic members can access late checkout benefits, which is often reserved for members with status. Where available, members can request a late checkout time of 2:00 p.m., and access free internet. At the Silver Elite level – earned after 10 nights – members earn 20% bonus points, and points won’t expire for as long as they hold the status.

Gold level status is earned after staying 20 nights or earning 40,000 points. Gold guests earn 40% more bonus points and can rollover nights towards the next year’s status. Platinum elite status is earned after staying 40 nights or earning 60,000 points, and comes with upgrades subject to availability, early check-in when available and a welcome amenity. Guests earn the top Diamond tier after staying 70 nights or earning 120,000 points and allows them to select free breakfast as their welcome amenity.

In addition to the tiers, the program is also introducing milestone rewards, earned after staying at least 20 nights. At each milestone, guests can select a choice of:

  • 20 nights: 5,000 bonus points, two food and beverage rewards, or one confirmable suite upgrade
  • 30 nights: 5,000 bonus points or two food and beverage rewards
  • Choose two rewards at 40 nights: 10,000 bonus points, five food and beverage rewards, one confirmable suite upgrade (limit one), or one annual lounge membership (limit one)
  • 50 and 60 nights: 10,000 bonus points or 5 food and beverage rewards

While the new program goes into effect immediately, members can access their new tier benefits starting in June 2022.

IHG One Announced as Hotels Prepare for Summer Travel Season

The IHG One program launch comes as hotels are preparing for the busiest season yet, as the pandemic comes to an end. In the last 30 days, Marriott Bonvoy launched their dynamic award chart, while World of Hyatt added AMR Collection resorts to their loyalty program.

I don't get why (and other chains do this too) lower tier brands earn fewer points per dollar spent; isn't it enough that they yield fewer points anyway by being cheaper?
