In-Vehicle Wi-Fi, New Apps in Rental Cars

As the promise of autonomous, self-driving cars peeks over the horizon, rental car companies are set to release apps such as voice-activated reservations, programs that assess the health and condition of the vehicle, and free wireless hotspots. The proposed upgrades are meant to serve as incremental, transitional features leading to a future when self-driving rentals pick customers up from home, the train station or the airport. Several car rental manufacturers have already introduced on-demand Wi-Fi hotspots for an additional charge, but according to car rental analysts, the industry is introducing these features as complimentary features of new vehicles in an effort to compete and stay relevant in the global market.
