In Brief: Woman Caught Attempting to Smuggle Baby Past Airport Security in Backpack

A Papua New Guinean woman attempted to smuggle her two-month-old infant past security at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in a backpack after she neglected to complete the baby’s immigration papers. The sleeping baby was reportedly discovered in the bag when it passed through an X-ray machine. The mother, identified as Jenifer Pavolaurea, 25, was interrogated by an immigration official before she was allowed to continue her journey to Papua New Guinea with her son. No charges are being brought against Pavolaurea.
