In Brief: United Employee Charged in Fatal Hit-&-Run, Killed Cyclist With Company Vehicle

A United Airlines employee is facing felony charges in a fatal hit-and-run. According to police, Daniel Wehr, 51, struck cyclist Jose Piancante Gomez, 25, with a company car Monday evening and fled the scene. Gomez was later found unresponsive on the road in Des Plaines, Ill. and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away.

Authorities were able to trace the vehicle to a United facility and, after conducting an investigation and obtaining a confession, Wehr was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with is charged with one felony count of fleeing the scene of a fatal accident.

United has released a statement with limited details, simply saying the airline is “fully cooperating with authorities.”
