In Brief: Regional Jet Narrowly Avoids Collision With Drone in New York

Shuttle America Flight 2708 was en route to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) from Reagan National Airport (DCA) Friday morning when it barely avoided collision with a drone near Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Although the Embraer 175 ultimately landed safely, the pilot had to pull the plane up about 200 feet to avoid the unmanned drone in its flight path.

No injuries were reported, and the event is currently under investigation by the FAA and Joint Terrorism Task Force. The near-miss comes hours after the pilots of four different commercial flights reported their aircraft had been targeted by green lasers near John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
