In Brief: Prank Call From “Osama bin Laden” Leads to Bomb Scare at Airport

No charges will be brought against a man who caused a bomb scare after calling an Air India employee at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) and claiming to be Osama bin Laden. Although Air India is denying the incident occurred, security officials say a female Air India employee was contacted by “Osama bin Laden”  — later identified as a childhood friend of the employee — early July 24 and told there was a bomb on one of the carrier’s flights.

The woman promptly informed airport security of the call, but a thorough search of the airport revealed no threats. When contacted by security, the prank caller claimed the line had been disconnected before he could tell his friend it was all a joke.
