In Brief: Paris Crack Down on Airbnb Properties, Raids Over 1,800 Rentals

Paris officials recently implemented a three-day raid targeting apartments rented out on Airbnb. After visiting over 1,800 rentals, the officers found 101 violations on units that had allegedly disappeared from the city’s rental market over the past five years. They were able to acquire the addresses through neighbors’ complaints and addresses found on Airbnb’s website, as well as other rental sites.

The city is the largest marketplace in the world for the hotel rental company and homeowners caught renting secondary apartments without the proper permits were fined as much as $27,455.
