In Brief: Lufthansa CEO Calls for Random Psych Tests
In an interview Friday, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said he would like the airline’s pilots to undergo random psychological tests after the March crash of Germanwings flight 9525 was attributed to an unstable co-pilot. Spohr is claiming the surprise checks could reduce speculation of pilots who were mentally incapable of flying.
The co-pilot of flight 9525, Andreas Lubitz, purposefully crashed the aircraft, which killed all 150 passengers onboard. Spohr said, “Insights into the co-pilot’s motives could come out of a so-called psychological autopsy that will be done as part of prosecutors’ investigation now.”
