In Brief: Flyers Suffer Grueling 33-Hour Delay, Mull Legal Action Against Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic could be facing legal action after issues with a Boeing 747-400’s air-conditioning unit resulted in a 33-hour delay last week. Shortly before 403 travelers were scheduled to board the flight at McCarran International Airport (LAS), airline officials informed them the aircraft was “too warm to board” due to issues with the air conditioner and that the flight was delayed. Not long after the initial delay, passengers were notified that difficulties with the aircraft’s rudder would extend the delay.

The flight, initially scheduled to takeoff Monday afternoon, did not depart for Gatwick Airport (LGW) until Wednesday morning. Although all of the passengers were provided hotel lodging, some are calling for upwards of $600 in additional compensation and have said they are considering legal action.

Pretty stupid and thoughtless statement @AndyGreen Some people really should stop and think before they commit their thoughts on to an open forum

Would they rather go home in a body bag?

Grueling delay? They were on the ground, not the airplane, were given hotel vouchers and were able to relax in Vegas. I would imagine Virgin Atlatntic will give them some compensation, especially as it falls under EU rules. So no, not ideal, but hardly grueling.

"some are calling for upwards of $600 in additional compensation and have said they are considering legal action". Fluffy wording, It's a Euro carrier - they are entitled to EUR 600 in compensation.
