In Brief: 6 Passengers Injured After Unspecified Threat Diverts WestJet Flight

WestJet Flight 442 to Toronto was forced to land at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) Monday evening due to an unspecified threat. While evacuating via the Boeing 737-700’s emergency slides, six of the 54 passengers onboard sustained injuries.

A statement from the airline confirmed the crew used slides to get everyone off the plane as quickly as possible. A portion of the statement read: “Initial reports indicate six guests received non-life threatening injuries during the evacuation and were treated by emergency response officials on the ground.”

Neither airline nor airport representatives specified what the threat against WS442 entailed. WestJet took to Twitter late Monday evening to announce police had cleared the aircraft and passengers were being accommodated at nearby hotels.
