IHG to Communicate With Guests Through Facebook Messenger

InterContinental Hotels Group has announced plans to begin communicating with guests through the use of Facebook Messenger. The hotel group has developed a bot, or virtual assistant, for Facebook Messenger that can communicate with and perform tasks for users. “We want to understand the role digital can play in improving the guest journey,” says Michael Menis, Senior Vice President for Digital and Voice at IHG, going on to claim that 75% of Smartphone users regularly interface through messaging apps. IHG has also concluded through its research that one out of every five minutes spent on mobile apps is spent on some facet of Facebook, and the group believes that the use of Facebook messaging will streamline all communications between guests and hotels.
