IHG PointBreaks Comes Out With a New List

The new InterContinental Hotels Group PointBreaks list is out, and you can book the following properties at reduced redemption rates for stays through May 31.

With just 97 hotels on it, this quarter’s list seems significantly shorter than it’s been in the past. Of these, 50 are located in the United States, and 47 are in international locations.

Since last year, IHG has been offering three tiers for its promotional nightly rate: 5,000 points, 10,000 points and 15,000 points. Now that the program has added two more redemption tiers, most of the promo hotels make up the middle tier.

  • 5,000 points: 11 hotels
  • 10,000 points: 66 hotels
  • 15,000 points: 20 hotels

Let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy properties to book this quarter.

InterContinental Pattaya Resort

Five InterContinental hotels are featured on the newest list, which doesn’t happen often. Among them is the InterContinental Pattaya Resort, formerly known as the Sheraton Pattaya Resort, located about 90 miles southeast of Bangkok. A standard room at this five-star cliffside resort usually goes for 35,000 IHG points, and redeeming 15,000 is considered a steal. Although the beach is not swimmable, the property’s three lagoon-style pools will make your getaway thoroughly relaxing.

InterContinental Presidente Puebla

Located just 80 miles east of Mexico City, the colonial city of Puebla will steal your heart. Known for the high caliber of the natural clay in the area, the city has been producing Talavera pottery products since the 16th century. A reward night at the InterContinental Presidente Puebla is usually listed at 25,000 IHG points, but you can book one for 10,000 points during the promo. However, because cash rates aren’t too high, I don’t recommend transferring any Chase Ultimate Rewards points for a night here.

InterContinental Sofia

Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, isn’t on the radar for a typical traveler, but its churches, mosques and other monuments add a special allure to the city. Before heading to the country’s stunning Black Sea beaches, you might want to explore the capital for a day or two. Take advantage of the opportunity to get to know the city during your stay at the luxurious InterContinental Sofia. A night here booked during the promo period will cost you 15,000 points, as opposed to 35,000 points for a night booked any other time.

In Conclusion

As the IHG properties listed on the PointBreaks page fill up, they’re removed from the list. For this reason, I recommend you move quickly if you have your eyes on one of these hotels. You can book up to two reservations per stay, but the number of nights is unlimited. Luckily, blackout dates don’t apply, and you can get some tremendous award rates at these hotels. Keep in mind that IHG Credit Card holders receive a free reward night for every four nights booked consecutively, which provides even more value.

Do any of the hotels on this quarter’s IHG PointBreaks list jump out at you?

They really need to kill off this promotion. The once desirable list has just become a pathetic joke, just like IHG as a whole.
