IATA Is Very “Disappointed” With France Right Now

IATA says it is “disappointed” that the French government authorized Aéroports de Paris (ADP) to raise airport fees for each subsequent year between 2016 and 2020.

IATA believes that the decision, which approved an average annual increase in charges of 1 percent above inflation over the four-year period, disregarded the recommendation of the Airport Consultative Commission to annually reduce airport fees in order to better serve the public interest.

ADP said in a recent statement: “In view of the crisis affecting the sector in Europe, the transformation of its leading players, the accentuation of competitive pressure from rival airports and the emergence of new consumption patterns, Aéroports de Paris must unceasingly improve the competitiveness of its airports.”

Augustin de Romanet, ADP Chairman and CEO, said: “In a constantly shifting environment, Aéroports de Paris must actively address the major challenges of competitiveness, attractiveness and growth.”

In response, IATA CEO Tony Tyler said: “It is deeply disappointing that the government chose to ignore this golden opportunity for a winning solution in favor of a decision that will make travel more expensive for French business and tourism … Making it more expensive at a time when improving competitiveness is a fundamental concern just does not add up.”
